Episode 3

How much Bharatanatyam could Nat Natyam

With Nat's curiosity and interest for Bharatanatyam rekindled, she and Purna head out to visit Teacher Sheila, Purna's Bharatanatyam teacher. Teacher Sheila welcomed them with open arms and a warmth that was similar to Purna's. Upon entering her home, Nat becomes mesmerised by Teacher Sheila's Bharatanatyam photos that decorated her walls. Nat was immediately reminded of her grandmother by the odd sense of familiarity.
Once they were comfortable, Nat and Purna got to work, asking the various questions that Nat had. Teacher Sheila spoke about her journey as a Bharatanatyam dancer and what was life for her like after her Arangetram.
Nat was intrigued by how vastly different everyone's Bharatanatyam journey is and thinks about what hers would be like if she chose to go through with the decision to dance. She finds herself more fascinated by Bharatanatyam the more she learns about it.
To Nat's surprise, there are much more opportunities that come after Bharatanatyam than it had lead on. For Teacher Sheila, it was just the beginning when she completed her Arangetram. She also lays down the truth of being a full time Bharatanatyam dancer and teacher, while it certainly hasn't been easy, it's something she's extremely proud of!
Teacher Sheila also provided some information about Bharatanatyam for Nat that's more accessible to her when she returns home. Nat becomes more excited about the prospect of possibly picking up Bharatanatyam.

Behind the Scenes

Here's a collection of pictures of Teacher Sheila's house when Purna went to visit her for this episode's interview! The collection is marvellous and we are as enchanted by it as Nat was when she sent us these pictures. We hope that you'll enjoy them as well. We're extremely grateful for the opportunity to talk to her and learn more about Bharatanatyam from someone who has practised it her whole life! Hmm, wonder if one day our team's Bharatanatyam dancer will eventually have a home that's as decked out as her teacher's too.

Episode 3: Testimonials

I didn't know a lot of this stuff until it was mentioned in the podcast! I used to dance as well, so I could relate to this episode a lot! And I think the amount of information was just right and very digestible! Great job!
