Episode 1
Introduction to Bharatanatyam
Nachitra --well, she goes by Nat back in the States--, has returned to her home country when her grandmother passed. Reminiscing over her grandmothers’ old pictures, Nat becomes intrigued with her grandmother in her Bharatanatyam garb. Soon she finds herself becoming invested in the dance, in hopes to connect with her culture and her late grandmother.
Nat meets up with her cousin, Purnashree, who happens to be a Bharatanatyam dancer herself. Purna was very enthusiastic about showing Nat the ropes to Bharatanatyam and teaching her about the dance.
As Nat gets used to being in her home country for the first time in her life, Purna excitedly shows and tells Nat about her journey as a Bharatanatyam dancer, the dance's history, and its significance. Nat finds herself even more intrigued about the dance as she absorbs the information eagerly and watches a recording of one of Purna’s old performances.
Purna becomes more excited when she picks up on Nat's intrigue and dedication to learn about Bharatanatyam. They both gain mutual respect for each other, finding it easier to bond as a family over the mutual interest.
Though Nat isn't too sure about everything yet, she finds herself enjoying the company of her very warm and welcoming cousin. On top of that, she finds herself agreeing to go with Purna to her hometown in Ipoh to hopefully learn more about the dance and connect with her cultural heritage.
Behind the Scenes
Natasha's and Purnashree's meeting and the making of our episode 1 script! They worked super hard on the script to make sure it was as informative as is it was fun and what better way to learn about something new than through a story? We scripted the podcast in a way that allows you to follow Nat's journey as she navigates her way through learning about a culture that she's lost. And maybe we'll inspire you to learn and connect with something you're no longer in touch with too.
We're all very excited for you to learn along with Natasha's character, Nachitra, so please look forward to more!
